Club History
Our first bowling green was situated in the extensive
gardens of James McLeish, Dean of Guild, who's property was off
Leonard Street in Perth. This proved to be a popular pastime and at
the end of 1853 there were 50 members.
In 1863 the land was purchased by the Scottish
Central Railway Company, but fortunately a plot of land was leased
from Lord Kinnoull adjacent to Balhousie Castle and the greens were
opened for play 12 May 1864. With the game `catching on` in Perth,
it was decided to raise the limit to 120 members.
With a few alterations to our greens and the
clubhouse, little has changed in all those years.
Our club has a membership of 66 gents and 30 ladies
and we have a very busy fixture list of friendly and competitive
matches. On most Saturdays we have home and away fixtures as well
as running open and invitation tournaments on several Sundays during
the season. We also entertain visiting touring teams from all over
the country. The 2006 season was very successful for the club as
the men's section won the Campbell Trophy, competed for by the six
private clubs in the city, and the ladies won the Fair Maid`s
Trophy.
